Odor is not a surface condition — it is a molecular presence embedded in materials, absorbed into structural components, and circulating through air systems. Masking agents address the symptom temporarily. Salem Steamer addresses the source permanently. Our odor neutralization protocol begins with source identification and contamination mapping, then applies the appropriate combination of enzymatic treatment, hydroxyl generation, thermal fogging, and ozone remediation depending on the odor type and affected materials. The result is a measurable reduction to below-threshold levels — not a temporary fragrance overlay.
Our Process
A structured assessment traces the odor to its source — whether biological, combustion-based, or microbial. Contamination is mapped to the affected materials and zones before any treatment is applied.
Enzymatic or oxidizing agents are applied directly to the contaminated source materials. Treatment chemistry is selected by odor type — biological odors require enzymatic breakdown; smoke and combustion residues require oxidative neutralization.
Where odor has penetrated air pathways and structural cavities, hydroxyl generation or ozone treatment is deployed in the affected space. Method selection is determined by occupancy status, material sensitivity, and the extent of atmospheric contamination.
A final assessment confirms that odor levels have been reduced to threshold or below. Where warranted, air quality sampling provides a documented record that the space has been restored to an acceptable indoor environmental standard.
